Cane Toad

Description

Cane toads, scientifically known as Rhinella marina, are large amphibians that were introduced to Australia in 1935 with the hopeful intent of controlling the invasive sugarcane beetle population. They were meant to act as a natural pest-control solution, but instead, these toads have become an ecological nightmare. Ignoring their intended prey, they wreaked havoc on the delicate ecosystems they were meant to protect, transforming into a highly toxic invasive species with no natural predators to keep their numbers in check. As a result, cane toads pose a significant threat to a wide range of native wildlife, including reptiles, mammals, birds, and even other amphibians.
